Teenager who allegedly led Atascadero police on car chase arrested

The Atascadero Police Department arrested a Paso Robles teenager on suspicion of leading officers on a car chase Sunday night.

The unidentified 17-year-old suspect was located in Paso Robles and was arrested without incident Tuesday, according to a news release.

According to police, the juvenile driver led officers on a vehicle chase after a traffic stop at Paloma Park in Atascadero at approximately 11:11 p.m. Sunday.

The pursuit ended when the vehicle crashed into a light pole t the intersection of El Camino Real and Santa Rosa Road, police said.

The driver then fled on foot toward Motel 6 at 9400 El Camino Real with what appeared to be a rifle, police said.

Police detained the passengers in the vehicle, who are also juveniles, the release said.

“A search of the area during the initial incident, as well as the suspect’s residence was conducted and the involved weapon is still outstanding,” the release said.

According to the release, Atascadero police detectives conducted an investigation with the assistance of the San Luis Obispo County Probation Department and Paso Robles Police Department.

Police said the suspect was booked at San Luis Obispo County Juvenile Services on suspicion of felony evading arrest, misdemeanor resisting arrest and misdemeanor hit and run.

The teen was determined to be in violation of probation, police said.
