Murder charge filed against SLO woman suspected of fatally shooting husband

San Luis Obispo County prosecutors filed a charge of murder Tuesday against a Paso Robles woman accused of fatally shooting her husband in a San Luis Obispo apartment complex last week.

The county District Attorney’s complaint accuses 23-year-old Skylar Marie Marshall of murdering Alexander Hagist with premeditation Thursday night.

The charge carries a sentencing enhancement for alleged personal and intentional discharge of a firearm.

She is scheduled to be in court for an arraignment Wednesday morning, court records show.

The San Luis Obispo Police Department arrested Marshall on Thursday night after officers were called around 9:10 p.m. to the Peachwood Complex on the 600 block of Chorro Street.

Reporting parties described a gunshot and a woman screaming, according to a Friday police news release. Shortly after officers and fire personnel arrived on scene, they allegedly located a man with a gunshot wound.

Hagist, 35, of San Luis Obispo succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead, according to the release.

A watch commander on duty at the time said officers worked through the night and the investigation evolved quickly.

After follow-up interviews were conducted, investigators determined Marshall was responsible for his death, according to police.

Jail logs showed that Marshall was initially booked on suspicion of arrested involuntary manslaughter, but a San Luis Obispo detective clarified that the shooting was intentional.

Marshall is being held without bail.

According to Marshall’s Facebook profile, she is from Paso Robles. Hagist was from Bakersfield and had several children before meeting Marshall, according to his Facebook profile.

The two were married for about a year, according to their profiles.
