Video shows car plowing into 2 pedestrians at Cal Poly. Now student faces felony charges

A livestream video at Cal Poly captured a Jan. 18 traffic collision that sent two pedestrians to the hospital after they were hit in a crosswalk by a car that then continued on without stopping.

Now, the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office has filed two felony charges against the Cal Poly student they say was driving the vehicle.

The video, a livestream of Cal Poly’s Vista Grande Dining Complex construction project first published by Mustang News, shows the two pedestrians enter a crosswalk on Grand Avenue into the path of an oncoming vehicle, which slams into them, sending the pair careening off the front passenger side of the car.

After the collision, the car keeps driving toward the center of campus, seemingly without slowing down.

University spokesman Matt Lazier said campus police received reports of the crash near the Performing Arts Center on the evening of Jan. 18.

Police investigated and identified Corban Brendan Kinloch, a biochemistry student from Yakima, Washington, as the suspected driver. He booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail on suspicion of hit-and-run.

Court records show Kinloch was released Jan. 20 on a $50,000 bail bond.

He was charged Monday with two felony counts of leaving the scene of an accident that caused injury.

He is scheduled to be arraigned Friday in San Luis Obispo Superior Court.
