CHP identifies Newhall man killed in Jeep rollover crash in SLO County

The CHP has identified a Newhall man killed in a rollover crash on Huasna Road Saturday night as 31-year-old Mirko S. Malobabich.

Malobabich was the sole occupant of a military-style 1998 Encore M-151 jeep to suffer life-threatening injuries, the CHP said. Authorities say none of the occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

The three passengers in the vehicle were taken to local hospitals; their conditions were not released Tuesday.

According to the CHP, Malobabich was driving the two-door jeep on a private dirt road off of Huasna Road and Saucelito Road when he made an unsafe turn at approximately 30 mph, the CHP said.

The vehicle overturned, ejecting all four occupants.

Emily White, 22, of Santa Clarita was transported to Marian Regional Medical Center in Santa Maria with an apparent back injury, Garrett Fairchild, 30, of Valencia suffered a minor wrist injury, and Martinique Rowden, 31, also of Newhall, suffered minor injuries to both legs, the CHP said.

Malobabich was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is not known if alcohol or drugs played a factor in the crash and the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the San Luis Obispo CHP Office at 805-594-8700.
