Newhall man killed in rollover crash in rural SLO County, CHP says
Update, 2:38 p.m.:
A vehicle rollover injured three people and killed one in rural Arroyo Grande on Saturday night, according to a press release by the California Highway Patrol.
A 31-year-old Newhall man was driving a 1998 Encore M-151 military-style two-door jeep on a private dirt road off of Huasna Road when he made an unsafe turn at approximately 30 mph, the CHP said.
The movement caused the vehicle to turn sideways and then overturn, ejecting all four occupants, the CHP said.
All other occupants reportedly suffered non-life threatening injuries.
Emily White of Santa Clarita was transported to Marian Regional Medical Center in Santa Maria with an apparent back injury, Garrett Fairchild of Valencia suffered a minor wrist injury, and Martinique Rowden, also of Newhall, suffered minor injuries to both legs, the CHP said.
The Newhall man was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel. It was determined that he was not wearing a seat belt. His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
It is not known if alcohol or drugs played a factor in the crash and the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the San Luis Obispo CHP Office at 805-594-8700.
