Teenage boy injured in Lompoc shooting

A teenage boy was in stable condition Monday night after a shooting earlier in the day, according to the Lompoc Police Department.

At approximately 3:30 p.m., Lompoc police officers and firefighters responded to the scene in an alley between the 500 blocks of L and M streets, according to Capt. Kevin Martin.

A family member initially took the boy to the Lompoc Valley Medical Center for treatment of a gunshot wound, police said.

However, a Santa Barbara County Air Support Unit helicopter was dispatched to the Lompoc Airport to transport the victim to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, police said.

The suspect in the shooting, identified only as a Latino male adult, was last seen running toward Maple Avenue, emergency dispatch reports said.

No arrests had been made as of Monday night.

“We’re still working it,” Martin said.

He added that it was too early to say if the incident was related to gang activity.

Officers and detectives worked to collect evidence and statements from those at the scene, but have asked that anyone with any information about the shooting contact Lompoc police at 805.736.2341.

Tips also may be submitted via the Police Department’s mobile app.

The Lompoc shooting occurred just minutes after Santa Maria police began investigating a shooting in their city Monday afternoon.

Additional details were not immediately available.
