Santa Maria police investigating shooting that wounded 1
A shooting in Santa Maria on Monday injured one person who was taken to the hospital by helicopter, the Santa Maria Fire Department said.
At about 3 p.m., authorities from the Santa Maria Police and Fire departments responded to the 600 block of North Palisade Drive, where they found a man who had been shot.
The victim was taken to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, the fire department said. His condition wasn’t immediately available.
“We don’t know what the motive was yet,” said Lt. Paul Van Meel, who leads the agency’s Detectives Bureau.
Police have issued an alert for a suspect in a silver Nissan, saying the man allegedly fired a gun four times, according to emergency radio traffic.
Detectives do not believe the shooting stemmed from gang activity, but said the investigation was continuing, Van Meel said.
Additional information was not immediately available.
This story will be updated as information becomes available. A previous version named a suspect, but that has been removed pending confirmation from the police.
