False alarm prompts fire department response at Diablo Canyon. What happened
The Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant’s fire department received a report of an incident on Monday morning — but when firefighters arrived on the scene, they found no fire.
PG&E received a report of an issue with one of the pieces of backup power equipment outside the main turbine building on Monday morning, according to a PG&E spokesperson.
The power plant’s fire department investigated the report, and within minutes, they confirmed that there was no fire on the scene.
PG&E notified the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission and Cal Fire about the incident, but Cal Fire firefighters did not need to go to the power plant to respond to the report.
The incident did not threaten the safety of the public or power plant personnel, PG&E said.
“Unit 1 and Unit 2 were not impacted and remain safely operating at 100% power,” PG&E said in a statement.
PG&E is further investigating the incident.
