Injured mountain biker airlifted from SLO hiking trail during rescue

An injured mountain biker was airlifted from Cerro San Luis Obispo in SLO on Sunday afternoon.

An off-duty firefighter discovered the cyclist on the trail with a dislocated shoulder and a deep laceration to his armpit at about 5 p.m., San Luis Obispo City Fire Department emergency manager Joe Little said.

The cyclist was unable to walk, and the firefighter called for backup.

At about 5:25 p.m., the cyclist was airlifted by helicopter to the base of the mountain, Little said. The cyclist was then transported by ambulance to the hospital, he said.

Cal Fire and the San Luis Obispo City Fire Department collaborated on the rescue.
