Minors busted for using fake IDs, underage drinking at SLO sushi restaurant
Undercover agents busted 29 minors for using fake IDs at a San Luis Obispo sushi restaurant last month.
California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control agents went undercover at HaHa Sushi and Ramen on April 23, according to a news release from the San Luis Obispo Police Department.
The agents spotted “a large group of youthful appearing individuals” ordering and drinking alcohol at the restaurant at about 9:30 p.m., the release said.
The agents talked to the group and discovered that none of them were 21 years old. They were using fake IDs, police said.
San Luis Obispo Police Department agents then went to the sushi restaurant to support the undercover agents.
Law enforcement officers cited 29 people for possessing fake IDs, and six of those people were arrested for possessing alcohol as a minor.
Eventually, all the minors were released from the scene, police said.
“Preventing the sale of alcoholic beverage to minors helps increase public safety by reducing DUI arrests and collisions,” the release said. “Statistics have shown that young people under the age of 21 have a much higher risk of being involved in a collision than older drivers. About 25% of fatal crashes involve underage drinking, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.”
