2 drivers injured in head-on crash on SLO County highway

Two drivers were sent to the hospital with serious injuries after a head-on crash late Sunday night in San Luis Obispo County.

The cars were driving toward one another in opposite directions on Highway 166 about one mile west of Highway 33 when they collided at around 11:10 p.m., according to a Santa Barbara County Fire Department post on X.

One driver was airlifted to Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara with major injuries, while the other person suffered moderate injuries and was taken by ambulance to Marian Regional Medical Center in Santa Maria, the Fire Department said.

There were no passengers in either vehicle.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, according to the agency.
