Deputy involved in shooting at Nipomo apartment complex, Sheriff’s Office says

The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office was at the scene of a deputy-involved shooting at a Nipomo apartment complex on Sunday night.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to a family disturbance in the 700 block of Hill Street in Nipomo at approximately 6:30 p.m., according to a news release.

When deputies arrived on scene, “an officer-involved shooting occurred,” the release said.

As of 9:30 p.m., deputies were at the location and the scene had been secured, according to the release. There was not a threat to the public at this time, the agency said.

On Sunday evening, a large swath of the San Luis Bay Apartments complex on Hill Street was surrounded by police tape, with a Sheriff’s Office command center parked on site. Numerous Sheriff’s Office vehicles were also at the scene, helping to block off a portion of Hill Street that runs adjacent to the site.

The Sheriff’s Office said the investigation into the incident was ongoing and “additional details will be released as they become known.”
