The Paso Robles Fire Department responded to a fire call at an apartment on Thursday night.

When the first firefighters arrived at 1134 Black Oak Drive — the location of the ECHO shelter — shortly before 8 p.m., they found no smoke, but active water was flowing from the sprinklers in a first-floor unit, the Fire Department said in a news release.

After a quick search, firefighters located two dogs in the bathroom and safely removed them. The dogs were turned over to the Police Department until their owners could be found.

The fire was isolated to the one unit, and firefighters stayed on scene until 9:48 p.m. helping the building owners clear out the water and remove contents to prevent further damage.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
