Authorities responded Friday afternoon to a surf rescue on the north side of Morro Rock, after bystanders reported a surfer in distress.

The incident was reported around 12:17 p.m., emergency response app PulsePoint showed.

Morro Bay Fire Department Chief Daniel McCrain told The Tribune that bystanders made the report after seeing someone in the water, and local surfers initiated the rescue response.

Ultimately, Morro Bay Harbor Patrol, the fire department and State Parks assisted in bringing the victim to shore.

As of 12:33 p.m., the victim was out of the water and was being transported to an ambulance, according to scanner traffic. The patient was then transported to Sierra Vista Hospital.

McCrain did not have a status update or an identity for the patient as of Friday afternoon.
