SLO County cub scout leader arrested for child sexual abuse images, Sheriff says
An Oceano man and cub scout leader was arrested Thursday for possession of child sexual abuse material, the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Friday.
Michael Schmidt, 46, was arrested on Thursday after Sheriff’s Office detectives and the Fresno County Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce served a search warrant at his Oceano residence, the release said.
The arrest came after the Sheriff’s Office received a report of potential child sexual abuse material on Feb. 17, the release said.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Schmidt was employed in information technology at the SLO County Health Department.
He also served as a cub scout leader in the Five Cities area, the release said.
The Sheriff’s Office said Schmidt was taken into custody without incident on suspicion of possessing child sexual abuse material.
The Sheriff’s Office encouraged anyone with additional information to contact the detective division at 805-781-4500 or Crimestoppers at 805-549-7867.
