2 people, 5 dogs rescued from island in swollen Salinas River
Emergency responders rescued two people and five dogs from the Salinas River on Wednesday afternoon.
At around 3 p.m., dispatch received a report of people stranded on an island in the middle of the river, according to a news release from Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services.
A ladder truck, two engines, a motor-powered inflatable raft, a battalion chief and other resources responded to the scene, where they located two people and five dogs stranded on the island and cut off from shore by the rain-swollen river, according to the release.
The crew used the raft to reach the group and bring them back to shore.
The Paso Robles Police Department and San Luis Ambulance assisted with victim location, and no victims required medical treatment, according to the release.
“Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services would like to remind residents that during periods of heavy rain, especially when soils are already saturated, rivers and creeks can rise rapidly,” the release read. “Never attempt to cross unfamiliar moving bodies of water.”
