Development of luxury homes going up along Hwy. 101. Here’s a look
Over the past year, a luxury housing development has been taking shape just off Highway 101 — and after a series of delays, it’s moving toward final completion this year.
Announced in the summer of 2024, the gated community known as Avila Canyon Estates will feature 21 homes ranging in price from around $1.8 million to $2.5 million, Coastal Community Builders CEO Cam Boyd told The Tribune at the time.
Though the first batch of homes in the project was originally expected to be completed in 2025, a series of weather-related delays pushed the date into 2026, Boyd said.
“The project has also navigated lengthy permitting processes for tract housing in San Luis Obispo County,” Boyd said in an email. “We appreciate that the county has acknowledged these challenges and is actively working to update and streamline its procedures for future housing developments.”
None of the 21 units are ready for occupancy yet, but the first set of homes is now slated for completion in July, followed by the remaining homes in November, Boyd said.
More than half of the homes in the development have already been sold, primarily in the low to mid-$2 million range, he said.
The development offers five distinct home styles ranging between 2,485 and 3,195 square feet, though buyers can customize more features on these homes than is typical of Coastal Community Builders’ standard models.
Units closest to Ontario Road are also equipped with sound walls to shield the homes from road noise from Highway 101, Boyd said.
Much of the greenspace the project sits on will be unchanged by the construction work beyond the home lots, two cul-de-sacs and a hiking trail, Boyd said.
More information on the remaining 11 home sites that are still for sale can be found at the development’s website.
