One person was killed and two others injured Friday in a fatal crash in Atascadero.

At about 3 p.m., police and firefighters responded to reports of a two-vehicle collision in the 9000 block of El Camino Real requiring extrication, according to a news release from Atascadero police.

There, they discovered an overturned sedan blocking the sidewalk and a pickup truck on the embankment.

The passenger of the overturned car was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver was extricated from the vehicle and taken to the hospital with major injuries.

Police identified the person who died as an “adult elderly female.”

The driver of the pickup truck was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries, the release read.

The road reopened at 10:23 p.m. following a closure of several hours that included documentation of the scene by investigators, police said.

The Police Department advised the public to call them at 805-461-5051 if people witnessed the crash or have additional information.
