Dense fog stops helicopter from responding to crash with injuries in SLO County

A vehicle drove off the side of the road near Lake Nacimiento, causing injury to at least one of its passengers.

A silver Kia Sportage SUV drove off the road at about 9 a.m. near the intersection of Eagle Creek Lane and Interlake Road, according to the CHP traffic log.

The crash caused a major injury, according to emergency radio traffic at 9:23 a.m.

At the time of the call for help, the engine was still running and “revving high,” the CHP traffic log said.

Cal Fire tried to send a helicopter as a possible medical evacuation at 9:04 a.m., but couldn’t because of the fog, the CHP said.

The first emergency responder arrived on the scene at about 9:20 a.m., according to emergency radio traffic.
