A man stole $4,000 in alcohol from a San Luis Obispo County Vons store last week — by spiriting the spirits out the door one trip after another, the Sheriff’s Office said.

According to a news release, deputies investigated a theft at the Vons in Nipomo following reports that a suspect allegedly stole several bottles of alcohol over the course of an hour on Feb. 2.

During the theft, the suspect removed individual bottles from their packaging and concealed them under his clothing or stashed them in his backpack before leaving the store, only to return to the scene of the crime again and again to snatch more merchandise, according to the release.

A suspect vehicle has not been identified, though the person was captured on video dressed in a distinctive black hooded jacked or sweater with a large white insignia on the back, according to the release.

Anyone who can identify the suspect or may have information related to the incident should contact the Sheriff’s Office at 805-781-4500 or Crime Stoppers at 805-549-7867.
