SLO police stopped 781 drivers at DUI checkpoint. Here are the results
The San Luis Obispo Police Department conducted a DUI checkpoint the Friday before the Super Bowl, and every driver passed the sobriety test — though perhaps not with flying colors.
The officers were stationed on Marsh Street from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Officers stopped 781 drivers at the checkpoint, and three of those people had to complete field sobriety tests, police said. All three drivers passed their tests.
Meanwhile, two of the drivers stopped at the checkpoint were cited for driving without a license, police said.
“DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes,” the news release said. “The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off roads.”
The checkpoints were funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, police said.
