Update, 11:24 a.m.:

Highway 46 was cleared, and both lanes were open to traffic as of 11:16 a.m., CHP’s Templeton Office said on X.

Original story:

Both lanes of Highway 46 were closed Monday morning in northern San Luis Obispo County after a semi-truck driver attempted to make a U-turn across the roadway.

Around 9:51 a.m., a semi-truck with a 53-foot trailer was blocking both lanes of traffic on Highway 46 just east of Highway 41 near the Cholame Y interchange, according to the California Highway Patrol’s traffic incident page.

The driver of the big rig truck was trying to make a U-turn and ended up getting stuck across the highway, the CHP’s Templeton Office said in a social media post.

According to the traffic incident page, the semi-truck’s axles were stuck in the mud and needed heavy-duty towing to be pulled out.

As of 10:20 a.m., both lanes of Highway 46 were closed to traffic.

The CHP said one-way traffic control is currently in place, but the agency told drivers to prepare for delays or plan to use an alternate route.

“Please do not travel off the paved roadway,” CHP’s Templeton office said.
