Pedestrian killed in SLO car crash was 70-year-old woman, police say
The pedestrian hit and killed by a car in San Luis Obispo on Wednesday morning was a 70-year-old female resident of the city, police announced Thursday.
The car struck the pedestrian just before 6:15 a.m. in the northbound lane of Santa Rosa Street near Montalban Street, the San Luis Obispo Police Department said in a news release.
A 70-year-old woman who lived in San Luis Obispo was crossing Santa Rosa Street before dawn from the east sidewalk before being struck, police said.
She suffered major injuries and, despite lifesaving efforts by police and fire responders, was pronounced deceased at the scene, police said.
Her name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The northbound lane of Santa Rosa Street was shut down from Montalban Street to Murray Avenue for several hours after the crash for a thorough investigation
The driver — a 66-year-old San Luis Obispo resident — remained on scene and has been cooperating with the investigation, police said. Drugs or alcohol are not believed to be a factor in the collision. The crash is still under investigation.
