2 DUI checkpoints planned for SLO County this weekend. Here’s when and where
San Luis Obispo County drivers should be on the lookout for a pair of checkpoints screening for drivers operating vehicles while under the influence of drugs and alcohol this weekend.
The San Luis Obispo and Arroyo Grande police departments will both hold DUI checkpoints this weekend, according to news releases from both agencies.
In San Luis Obispo, a checkpoint will be set up from 8 p.m. Friday to 1 a.m. Saturday within San Luis Obispo city limits, though the exact location will not be made public, according to a news release from the department.
Arroyo Grande, meanwhile, will hold a checkpoint Saturday from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m., also at an undisclosed location within city limits.
“Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk,” San Luis Obispo Police Department Sgt. Tim Koznek said in the release. “Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improve traffic safety.”
Driving under the influence can include impairment from alcohol, medicinal and recreational marijuana, prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs, according to the releases.
Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license, the releases said.
