SLO County man dies in crash on Highway 46 when truck hit his car at red light

A Paso Robles man died early Thursday morning when his car was hit by a truck while he was stopped at a red light, the Paso Robles Police Department said.

The 63-year-old Paso Robles resident was driving a Lexus when he stopped at a red light on westbound Highway 46 East and Golden Hill Road at about 5:30 a.m.

Then, a Bakersfield resident driving a Freightliner box truck westbound on Highway 46 “failed to slow” and struck the Lexus from behind, police said in a news release.

“The impact killed the driver of the Lexus,” the release said.

The truck driver, 25-year-old Gean Marco HuamanCastro, was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, police said.

He was booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail, police said, but he did not appear on the Sheriff’s Booking Log as of 11:45 a.m.
