A driver fell asleep at the wheel and crashed near Cal Poly on Thursday morning, the San Luis Obispo Police Department said.

When the driver fell asleep, they struck “several parked, unoccupied cars” before their vehicle rolled over and came to a rest on Hathway Avenue at about 8:15 a.m.

“Luckily, the airbags deployed and the driver and passenger were wearing seatbelts,” police said in a Facebook post.

The driver suffered minor injuries in the crash and was sent to the hospital for treatment. The passenger was not injured.
