‘Significant rain,’ strong winds to sweep SLO County. Here’s when storm starts

A major storm could bring thunder, strong winds and several inches of rain to San Luis Obispo County in coming days.

A “significant rain event” is expected to sweep through the Central Coast on Monday through Wednesday, with the heaviest showers coming down on Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service’s forecast discussion,

“We’re looking at a classic Pacific storm that will kind of move through the area, which is a little abnormal for October,” Ryan Kittell, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service, told The Tribune.

More populated parts of the county could see up to 2 inches of rainfall on Tuesday, while foothill areas could receive up to four inches during the course of the storm, Kittell said.

There’s a low, or, “non-zero chance” of significant flooding in local canyons, rural roads and burn scars recently scorched by wildfires, he added.
