A boil water notice issued to around 100 households in San Luis Obispo was canceled Friday morning after authorities determined the water in the area was safe to drink.

The notice started on Wednesday as a precautionary measure after a resident removed a backflow device from their private property, a Friday news release said. The device was intended to stop well water from entering the city’s water system.

But after “comprehensive water quality testing,” the city found the water was safe to drink, the release said.

“Protective measures are in place on the subject property to prevent further intrusion of well water into the city’s drinking water system,” the city wrote. “It is no longer necessary for affected residents and businesses to boil tap water or to consume bottled water.

The original notice advised around 100 households on Castillo Court, Capistrano Court, Isabella Way and Portola Street to boil or disinfect tap water used for drinking and cooking.
