The southern part of the gutted Templeton Feed & Grain granary collapsed on Monday after a deliberate demolition from ABI Engineering Grading and Paving Underground.
Video posted on Facebook by Melissa Chavez showed half of the 105-foot structure leaning precariously before in crumbled in upon itself.
According to Templeton Fire Chief Tom Peterson, the demolition team successfully brought down the tower on Monday and was hoping to do the same to the northern portion of the granary later in the afternoon.
The demolition team wrapped a cable around the tower and then pulling it with excavators to collapse the burned-out structure, crushing it “like a soda can,” Peterson said.
He noted the process was safe and controlled.
