Did you feel it? 3.6-magnitude quake near Parkfield shakes SLO County

An earthquake near a famed Monterey County town rattled parts of the Central Coast on Wednesday afternoon and was felt across much of San Luis Obispo County.

At around 3:56 p.m., a 3.6-magnitude earthquake was detected near Parkfield — known as the Earthquake Capital of the World — just north of the Monterey and San Luis Obispo county line, according to the United States Geological Survey.

Accoring to the USGS’ “Did You Feel It?” map, the quake was felt in parts of Paso Robles and Atascadero, with minimal reports from as far south as San Luis Obispo.

The USGS classified the quake as weak to light on its shaking scale, with no damage reported.
