A planned power outage may cut power to parts of northern San Luis Obispo County for two days due to wildfire prevention measures.

According to PG&E’s Outage Center, power is likely to be shut off in San Miguel north of Estrella Road as part of a larger planned outage that will impact communities along Highway 101 and Highway 198 in Monterey County starting at around 10:30 a.m. Thursday morning at the earliest.

Power is expected to be restored around 3 p.m. Saturday, according to the Outage Center.

Along with SLO and Monterey, several other counties across California are also on alert for so-called PSPS power outages:

  • Alameda
  • Contra Costa
  • Fresno
  • Merced
  • San Benito
  • San Joaquin
  • Santa Clara
  • Shasta
  • Stanislaus
  • Tehama

According to PG&E’s Public Safety Power Shutoff page, a planned outage can be called in the event of severe weather conditions such as low humidity, forecasted high winds, dry material on the ground, vegetation near power lines, red flag warnings from the National Weather Service and real-time ground observations.
