A train struck and killed a pedestrian in San Luis Obispo on Thursday afternoon, according to the San Luis Obispo Police Department.

At about 12:30 p.m., a northbound Amtrak train struck the man while he was walking near the railroad tracks at the end of Industrial Way, police said.

“The victim is a white male in his early 20s, and investigators are currently working to identify him and determine the circumstances of the collision,” police posted on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

The northbound Amtrak route was briefly halted during the investigation but had resumed as of 2:40 p.m.

The San Luis Obispo Police Department, Fire Department, San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s and Coroner’s Office and Amtrak Police were all at the scene.

A body could be seen being put into a coroner’s vehicle around 2 p.m.
