Stretch of SLO road at ‘serious risk of collapsing’ after drivers ignore closure, CHP says

A stretch of a key San Luis Obispo road was at “serious risk of collapsing” on Thursday after drivers continued to ignore road closure signs, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Orcutt Road remains closed at Righetti Road, the CHP said in a news release.

“The closure has been in place since the last storm and unfortunately, traffic has been driving over and through the road closure,” the CHP said.

With a rain storm coming this weekend, the release said, the conditions of the road are “likely to get worse.”

Drivers are urged to use alternate routes via Highway 227, which turns into Broad Street, and Biddle Ranch Road.

“Please obey the road closure signs and barricades, as they are placed there for your safety,” the CHP said.
