National Guard joins search for SLO County boy lost in flood, sheriff says
The search for missing the 5-year-old who was swept away in floodwaters Monday continued in San Miguel, with more than 100 National Guard personnel joining the effort on Wednesday, according to an Instagram post from the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office.
Kyle Doan, a kindergartner at Lillian Larsen Elementary School, was last seen Monday morning when he and his mother became trapped in floodwaters from San Marcos Creek. Bystanders were able to rescue her, but Kyle disappeared in the current.
The Sheriff’s Office received mutual aid resources from other law enforcement agencies including dive team members, search and rescue team members and K9 units from Ventura and Santa Barbara counties, the agency said in a news release.
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office also supplied personnel with sonar equipment to aid in the search.
Doan was last seen wearing a black puffer jacket with a red liner, blue jeans and blue and gray Nike tennis shoes. He has short, dirty blond hair and hazel eyes, the release said. He is 4 feet tall and weighs 52 pounds.
More National Guard troops were set to arrive Thursday to assist in the search as conditions permit, the office said in the Instagram post.
