AmpSurf brings World Para Surfing Championships to Pismo Beach
The 2022 Pismo Beach International Surfing Association (ISA) World Para Surfing Championships hosted by AmpSurf are being held at the pier in Pismo Beach through Sunday.
The para surfing competition started Monday with a “learn to surf” clinic and opening ceremonies.
“This event will again bring the top Para Surfers from around the world to Pismo Beach to compete for world champion,” according to the AmpSurf website. “These athletes will be representing their home nations to claim the gold for not only themselves, but their nation as well.”
One of the competitors, Matt Formston, of Australia, competed in the vision impaired portion of the contest Wednesday. Formston is the current Para Surfing World Champion, winning the 2017, 2018 and 2020 ISA World Para Surfing Championships.
The final day of the competition is Sunday; it will conclude with a closing ceremony on the Pier between 20 and 30 minutes after the last heat.
