Surfing competition comes to Morro Rock
The SLO CAL Open surfing competition is being held this weekend at Morro Rock.
Mild weather and fun glassy surf greeted competitors Saturday for the Round of 32.
On Sunday, competition runs from 8 a.m. to around 12:30 p.m., starting with the men’s quarterfinals and women’s semi-finals, according to Andrew Nichols, the WSL North Media manager.
The event is part of the World Surf League Qualifying Series, which gives young surfers the chance to earn WSL Qualifying Series points, compete against international athletes, and gain valuable competition experience, according to the website.
The event is hosted by Surfing for Hope. A similar qualifying event was held in Pismo Beach in January.
