Residents displaced in Paso Robles after fire damages apartment complex
Multiple residents in a Paso Robles apartment complex were displaced after a fire burned at least six apartments Wednesday morning.
When crews first arrived at the complex on the 100 block of Olive Street around 10:50 a.m., one apartment was fully engulfed in flames, Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services Department battalion chief Jay Enns told The Tribune.
The fire then spread to three more apartments, damaging the inside and outside of the units, Enns said.
At least one apartment lost its roof.
Two other apartments will also likely no longer be habitable after being damaged in the fire, he said.
No residents were injured in the fire, Enns said, and crews rescued a reptile from the structure.
A second blaze sparked when embers from the apartment fire traveled to a field behind the complex, but crews were able to quickly contain it.
Because the apartment where the fire began was engulfed in flames, crews could not shut off the gas in the single apartment, so gas for the entire complex was shut off.
Enns said he expected crews to remain on scene for until at least 3 or 4 p.m., possibly later, adding that there was still some structural integrity in the building firefighters were “worried about.”
At one point, there were 14 units — including at least one helicopter — dispatched to the fire, according to PulsePoint.
The Templeton Fire Department, Atascadero Fire Department and Cal Fire assisted Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services in putting out flames.
The Red Cross is helping displaced residents.
The cause of the fire had not yet been determined as of early Wednesday afternoon.
