A wildfire that broke out west of Bishop Peak on Wednesday was contained that same afternoon, according to Cal Fire.

Firefighters from Cal Fire, with the help of San Luis Obispo City Fire, the Forest Service and Atascadero State Hospital worked to contain the blaze on the 700 block of O’Connor Way, Cal Fire tweeted Wednesday at 1:29 p.m.

More than 13 air and ground crews from the different fire departments were dispatched to help contain the blaze, according to emergency response app PulsePoint.

The San Luis Obispo Police Department asked the public to avoid the area while the fire was active in a tweet Wednesday afternoon.

CAL Fire, which had jurisdiction over this incident according to a public information officer from SLO City Fire, did not respond for comment at the time of publication.

This was the second major fire burning in San Luis Obispo County on Wednesday. Earlier that day, firefighters battled an apartment blaze in Paso Robles that displaced a number of residents.
