Update, 7:45 p.m.:

Cal Fire battalion chief Chad Fleming said all the fires along the roadway have been contained as of 7:40 p.m.

According to Fleming, a total of four fires burned about half an acre along the highway Friday evening. He said it was thanks to a quick report by a driver and quick response from firefighters that the blazes did not grow much larger.

Additionally, Fleming said fire crews attacked the fires “very aggressively” in light of the area’s “significant fire history.”

“To be able to contain these fires without them getting bigger, that was a huge success to the firefighters here,” he said.

California is mid-way through fire season and fuels are extremely dry, Fleming added, so people should be especially on alert and prepared to notify authorities if they see any signs of a new blaze.

“We just need to be at a heightened state of awareness right now,” he said. “Everybody — the public as well as the fire agencies.”

The cause of the fires is under investigation.
