A speeding driver hit a fire hydrant with their car, then crashed into a palm tree in San Luis Obispo on Saturday night, police said.

The crash occurred at 10:07 p.m. Saturday, the San Luis Obispo Police Department said.

After colliding with the hydrant on Broad Street, sending a geyser of water shooting into the air, the unidentified driver continued another 250 yards — 750 feet — down the road and hit the tree, the agency wrote on Twitter.

The driver was then transported to a local hospital for “assessment of possible injuries,” police said in the tweet.

Police said the person will be charged with driving under the influence of intoxicants.
