At least one mama had her Mother’s Day made on Sunday, thanks to the crew from Santa Barbara County Fire Department Station 26 in Orcutt.

Firefighters were alerted that one of a mallard duck’s eight ducklings had gotten separated and stuck in a storm drain, according to Mike Eliason, a Fire Department spokesman.

Crews were able to free the wayward duckling from the storm drain and reunite it with its mother and family, Eliason said.

A short time later, the whole avian crew was enjoying a swim in a local pool.

There was no word on whether any cats needed rescuing from a tree.
