How are you coping with record-breaking gas prices, SLO County? We want to know
On Friday, some were poised on the precipice.
By Saturday, local stations took the leap and several began charging more than $6 for a gallon of gas.
According to GasBuddy.com, which crowdsources local gas prices from customers, at least five stations in San Luis Obispo County were charging $6 or more for regular unleaded gas as of Monday. (This number could be much lower than the actual amount, because data on all stations throughout the county was not available via GasBuddy.)
Those included:
- Chevron, Templeton: $6.55 per gallon
- Shell, Cambria: $6.29
- Shell, Shell Beach: $6.25
- Chevron, Ramada Drive, Paso Robles: $6.25
- Chevron, Niblick Drive, Paso Robles: $6.25
That price would have easily shocked most folks even just a year ago: At this same time in 2021, San Luis Obispo County gas prices were sitting at a cool $3.804 per gallon — up from the 2020 pandemic dip, but not increasing at an incredibly fast rate.
Flash forward to 2022, and gas prices have risen, on average, 52 cents per gallon since the end of February, with the average cost of a gallon of gas costing $5.427.
That’s 52 cents in just one week.
And the prices will likely continue to go up, as sanctions against Russian crude oil push prices to the max.
“Americans have never seen gasoline prices this high, nor have we seen the pace of increases so fast and furious,” GasBuddy analyst Patrick De Haan said in a news release Monday. “It’s a dire situation and won’t improve any time soon.”
