Decades ago, Paso Robles dropped to a low of 25 degrees. On Friday, that record was broken.

The city topped its all-time mark for the daily low temperature for Feb. 25 on Friday morning, falling to 23 degrees, according to the National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard office.

The lowest temperature for the date before Friday was nearly 75 years ago, when it reached 25 degrees in 1948, the National Weather Service tweeted.

Paso Robles reached similar temperatures in February 2020, when it hit a record low for overnight temperature at 21 degrees at one point that month. Its previous record for overnight temperature was 23 in 1955, PG&E meteorologist John Lindsey told the Tribune.

The Weather Service announced a frost advisory throughout the Central Coast, effective Friday night through Saturday morning.

A freeze watch also was issued last week through Friday for the western parts of San Luis Obispo County.

Such cold snaps could threaten crops, other vegetation and unprotected outdoor plumbing, according to the Weather Service.

Still, forecasters say daily temperatures will in fact warm up this weekend.
