Another morning of freezing cold temperatures hit San Luis Obispo County Thursday morning, with one location plunging to 15 degrees.

But, Thursday was the worst day of the cold snap along the Central Coast, and there is promise of warmer weather around the corner.

Most areas of the county saw freezing temperatures Thursday morning, but the mercury dipped the lowest in the North County.

Here’s a look at the lowest temperatures recorded Thursday morning, according to PG&E meteorologist John Lindsey:

  • La Panza (east of Santa Margarita): 15 degrees
  • Las Tablas: 20 degrees
  • South Atascadero: 21 degrees
  • Paso Robles Municipal Airport: 22 degrees
  • Santa Margarita Fire Department: 22 degrees
  • Humbug Vineyards, Paso Robles: 24 degrees
  • PG&E Energy Education Center, Avila Beach: 31 degrees
  • Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo: 31 degrees
  • Baywood Park, Los Osos: 31 degrees
  • Carrizo Plain: 32 degrees
  • San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport: 32 degrees
  • Central Coast Aquarium, Avila Beach: 35 degrees
  • Diablo Canyon: 44 degrees

While these temperatures surely are cold, no known daily low temperature records were set.

The record daily low for Feb. 24 in Paso Robles is 20 degrees set in 2018 and 30 degrees at the San Luis Obispo Airport in 1975, according to the National Weather Service.

Around this time of year, the typical low in Paso Robles hovers around 38 degrees, while San Luis Obispo should be bottom out at around 43 degrees.

The westernmost areas of San Luis Obispo County are currently under a freeze watch issued by the National Weather Service effective through Friday. The Service warns the freezing temperatures could kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.

The below-freezing overnight temperatures are forecast to last through Saturday in the North County, with temperatures warming up a big after that.

Highs may reach the mid-60s on Friday throughout the Central Coast, warming to the low 70s in some areas on Saturday and Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

In the North County, lows will remain in the 30s through the weekend.

By Monday, temperatures are expected to reach the high 60s and low-to-mid 70s across the county, according to the Weather Service.
