Cal Poly salutes 2 grad classes, including 1,400 students who didn’t get to walk in 2020
Cal Poly’s December commencement is a double shot this year, saluting the fall Class of 2021 and graduates from the Class of 2020.
On Saturday morning, the university celebrated more than 810 undergraduate students and about 120 master’s students in a ceremony at Spanos Stadium.
“Commencement marks the end of a chapter and a celebration of accomplishment for our Cal Poly graduates,” Cal Poly President Jeffrey D. Armstrong said in a news release ahead of the event. “It gives us an opportunity to honor their hard work and to salute their support team of family, friends, faculty and mentors. This is particularly true of these graduates, who have navigated life and studies in the incredibly challenging time of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
On Sunday, Cal Poly will honor about 1,400 members from the Class of 2020, giving them a chance to walk across the stage at the stadium.
The graduates are from all six colleges and are among the roughly 6,000 who had virtual ceremonies in June and December of 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
