Cal Poly extends deadline as flood of last-minute applicants crash CSU, UC websites

So many would-be college students apparently flooded the websites for the University of California and California State University systems on Tuesday that both systems were forced to extend their application deadlines.

This included Cal Poly, where the deadline to apply to the San Luis Obispo university was extended to Wednesday at 11:59 p.m.

UC and CSU representatives announced on Twitter that the original 11:59 p.m. Tuesday deadline to apply to a number of their colleges has been extended to Wednesday or beyond, after connectivity issues made it impossible for many to submit their applications.

On Monday, CSU representatives tweeted from the official system account that its application website was “experiencing an extremely high volume of applicants attempting to submit applications,” leading to some delays in applying.

By Tuesday, the system had extended the application deadline.

“We apologize for connectivity issues that users may have experienced,” CSU representatives tweeted Tuesday evening.

Other CSU universities that had their application deadlines pushed back are Cal State Fullerton and Cal State Long Beach, both of which now share the Wednesday deadline with Cal Poly, and Fresno State, Cal State Los Angeles, Cal Poly Pomona, San Diego State and San Jose State, all of which extended application deadlines to Dec. 15.

Anyone experiencing trouble applying to any of the above colleges are asked to visit the online Cal State Applicant Help Center for help.

The UC system also extended the deadline for applications to all nine of its colleges to Wednesday, though only those that have been started on or before Tuesdau will be accepted, the UC tweeted from its applications Twitter account on Tuesday.

Those experiencing trouble applying to UC schools are asked to call the UC Application help desk at 800-207-1710 for assistance.
