Best Beach Bracket: Here’s which SLO County spots made the Elite 8 — who will move on?
We’re through the first round of our Best Beach Bracket, and the field has been cut in half from 16 to eight.
Now it’s time for Round 2 — aka, the Elite Eight.
The game is simple: Vote each week in our bracket, which pits SLO County’s top beaches in head-to-head matchups loosely based on region and general vibe of the beach. Over the weeks, your votes will narrow down the contenders until we determine one true winner.
In Round 1, we drew the line through Montana de Oro with eight beaches from the north and eight from the south.
In the South County, Shell Beach absolutely demolished Oceano Dunes in their matchup, winning a whopping 86% of the vote, while Avila Beach solidly defeated Olde Port Beach, making it to the next round with 62% of the vote. No surprise, Pismo State Beach (which for those confused includes the eponymous city, as well as the neighboring city of Grover Beach) came out the winner against Fisherman’s Beach, taking in 64% of the vote.
In the battle of the coves, which pitted South County’s Pirate’s Cove against the North Coast’s Spooner’s Cove, Spooner’s emerged victorious with 65% of the vote.
Further north, the Morro Strand took on San Simeon Beach and won, with 61% of the vote, while the Montaña de Oro Sandspit narrowly kicked the Morro Bay Dog Beach out of the running with 58% of votes. In the matchup between Moonstone Beach and Piedras Blancas, Moonstone was the clear winner with 81% of the votes going to it. Finally Cayucos Beach easily defeated Hearst State Beach with 62% of votes in its favor.
The beaches moving on to the Elite Eight, and their matchups, are:
- Shell Beach vs. Avila Beach
- Pismo Beach vs. Spooner’s Cove
- Morro Strand vs. Montaña de Oro Sandspit
- Moonstone Beach vs. Cayucos
Who do you want to win out in this next round?
Make sure to vote before the bracket closes at 11:59 p.m. on Nov. 9. Vote as many times as you like, and make sure to come back next week for Round 3: The Final Four. This is not a scientific poll.
Happy bracketing, SLO County!
