We all have our favorite beach in San Luis Obispo County, but do you ever wonder if your favorite local beach is THE favorite beach?

Well, it’s time to find out.

The Tribune is launching the Best Beach Bracket, a fun competition to determine which among our many stellar strands of sand is SLO County’s ultimate coastal champ, according to our readers.

The game is simple: Vote each week in our bracket, which pits 16 of SLO County top beaches in head-to-head matchups loosely based on region and general vibe of the beach.

We drew the line through Montana de Oro with eight beaches from the north and eight from the south. Your votes will narrow down this starting Sweet 16 to the Elite Eight, then the Final Four and on until we determine the ultimate Best Beach in San Luis Obispo County.

Do you think Avila Beach is the absolute best? Vote for it. Often. Are you more of a Cayucos fan? Let us know. The more votes, the better.

Each week will feature a new round of your fan-favorite beaches until we crown a winner. Vote as many times as you like, and make sure to come back each week for the new round. This is not a scientific poll.

And make sure to vote before Round 1 closes at 11:59 p.m. on Nov. 2!

Happy bracketing, SLO County!
