SLO is getting a new extended-stay hotel with a swimming pool. When will it open?
Another new, large-scale hotel is coming to San Luis Obispo — this one offering a place for those looking for extended stays, as well as overnight stops.
TownePlace Suites by Marriott is in the midst of building a 113-room, four-story hotel at 1301 Calle Joaquin, with plans to open by the end of summer, hotel general manager Jennifer Crooks wrote in an email.
“We can’t wait to join the San Luis Obispo community and are excited to invite everyone to tour the hotel after we open,” Crooks wrote.
All rooms at TownePlace Suites San Luis Obispo will be studios or suites with full kitchens. Studios will either offer king or double queen beds, while suites will feature king or queen beds.
The hotel is located near the incoming San Luis Ranch housing development, which is also under construction, and the BMW of SLO car dealership in view of Highway 101 along Calle Joaquin.
TownePlace Suites San Luis Obispo rooms can be booked online in advance, with room prices ranging from $184 to $206, as of Thursday.
Hotel amenities will include an outdoor swimming pool, fire pits and barbecue grills.
The new lodging facility also will feature a guest laundry room, fitness room and breakfast buffet room with tables, serving areas and a patio, along with a meeting/multi-purpose room.
The hotel will open serving a grab-and-go breakfast for guests, Crooks said.
The 69,293-square-foot building was reviewed by the city of San Luis Obispo’s Architecture Review Commission in August 2015.
New SLO hotel to offer extended stays
TownePlace Suites San Luis Obispo will be managed by InterMountain Management, which also manages Hampton Inn & Suites in San Luis Obispo. The family-owned hospitality company has a nationwide portfolio of 85 hotels comprised primarily of extended-stay and select-service lodgings.
Crooks said the group “loves the area” and “we also saw a need for extended stay hotels in the area as well as additional Marriott hotels.”
Marriott defines extended stays as any stay lasting five nights or more, offering rates for guests stay a few nights, a few weeks or a few months.
“Extended stay guests are typically people traveling for work, relocations to the area, guests needing somewhere due to an insurance claim, and more,” Crooks said.
As the hotel’s construction proceeds, the hotel is hiring for the following positions: assistant general manager, housekeeping supervisor, chief engineer, housekeepers, guest service representatives and facility attendant. To apply, go to www.immhotels.com.
