Heads up, North County drivers: Hwy. 101 roadwork will close lanes and cause delays

Highway 101 drivers in the North County should expect delays next week as work begins on a repaving project between Santa Margarita and Atascadero.

Crews are preparing to replace concrete pavement at five locations between the Highway 58 interchange and Traffic Way and will be taking field measurements Tuesday and Wednesday from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

During the work, the right lane of the highway in each direction will be closed beneath the overpasses at Highway 58, Santa Barbara Road, Santa Rosa Road, Curbaril Avenue and Traffic Way.

Caltrans said motorists should expect delays up to 10 minutes.

The actual repaving work will begin in September, with overnight lane closures Sunday from 9 p.m. until 7 a.m. and Monday through Friday from 6:30 p.m. until 7 a.m.

Exact dates of that work have not yet been determined, but the project is scheduled to be complete by December.

This story was updated after the hours of work on Tuesday and Wednesday were shifted to overnight.
